We have been using the energy of the wind for thousands of years. There were boats propelled by wind sailing along the Nile River in 5000 B.C. By 200 B.C., there were simple windmills in China pumping water. At the same time Persian were using vertical-axis windmills with woven reed sails to grind grain.

People continued to find new ways of using the wind energy. By the 11th century, people in the Middle East were using windmills extensively for food production;crusaders and returning merchants brought this idea back to Europe. The Dutch adapted the windmill and used it for draining lakes and marshes in the Rhine River Delta. When conquerors took this technology to America in the late 19th century, they began using windmills to pump water for farms and ranches, and later, to generate electricity for homes and industry.

However, industrialization, in Europe and later in America led to a gradual decline in the use of windmills. People stated to use steam engines rather than windmills. In the 1930s, the Rural Electrification Administration’s programs brought inexpensive electric power to most rural areas in USA.

Industrialization did not only led to the decline of using windmill but also sparked the development of larger windmills to generate electricity. The earliest wind turbine appeared in Denmark in 1890. In the 1940s the largest wind turbine of the time began operating on a Vermont hilltop known as Grandpa’s Knob. This turbine, rated at 1.25 megawatts in winds of about 30 mph, fed electric power to the local utility network for several months during World War II.

The popularity of using the wind energy has always changed with the price of fuels. When fuel prices fell after World War II, interest in wind turbines waned. But when the price of oil raised in the 1970s, the interest in wind turbine in the world also increased a lot.

After the oil embargoes of 1970s,new ways of converting wind energy into useful power are introduced. Many of these approaches have been demonstrated in “wind farms” or wind power plants groups of turbines that feed electricity into the utility grid in USA and Europe.

Today, the lessons learned from more than a decade of operating wind power plants, have made wind-generated electricity very close in cost to the power from conventional utility generation in some locations. Wind energy is the world’s fastest-growing energy source and will power industry, businesses and homes with clean, renewable electricity for many years to come.

Which design will you use for your windmill? Will your neighbors hate it?

If you’re thinking of building your own windmill, one of the main areas to consider is windmill design. If you are in a populated neighborhood or suburb, you will want to check with the neighborhood associations and zoning boards to make sure that they are OK with the design and placement of your windmill.

It is always a good idea to have your planned lined out for them, along with a diagram of your property and figures on how much energy and money you will be saving. You might get a few converts along the way!

Here is an example to get you started:

A 250-kW turbine installed at the elementary school in Spirit Lake, Iowa, provides an average of 350,000 kWh of electricity per year, more than is necessary for the 53,000-square-foot school. Excess electricity fed into the local utility system earned the school $25,000 in its first five years of operation. The school uses electricity from the utility at times when the wind does not blow. This project has been so successful that the Spirit Lake school district has since installed a second turbine with a capacity of 750 kW. (For further information on this project, see at the Web site of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives.)

Fortunately, I am building my off the grid home way out in the woods, so there is no neighborhood association that I have to comply with. However, I am still doing research on the best designs and the best ways to make my own windmill power.

Here’s a little video of a really cool windmill design from a guy at the Maker Faire in Austin, Texas.

Bharatbook.com added a new report on “Deep Research Report on Global and China Offshore Wind Energy” which gives Offshore Wind Energy Installation technologies and standards for Offshore Wind Energy in China.

2009 Deep Research Report on Global and China Offshore Wind Energy2009 Deep Research Report on Global and China Offshore Wind Energy was published by us on July 2009. It was a professional and depth research report on Global and China Offshore Wind Farm Operation.

We make a detailed analysis on 12 major offshore wind energy countries including Denmark UK Sweden etc in the world. ( http://www.bharatbook.com/Market-Research-Reports/Deep-Research-Report-on-Global-and-China-Offshore-Wind-Energy.html )We analysis their offshore wind energy policy offshore wind farm construction and offshore wind farm operation, then we get relevant experience conclusion. We combine the current development status of China offshore wind power to study abjectly of China offshore wind energy prospects and obstacles which may encounter in the future. At the beginning of the report, we compare onshore and offshore wind energy; we make a statistic of offshore wind turbine R&D and interpret many technical problems one by one. At the second Chapter of the report, we make a statistic of all the countries in the world about their offshore wind farm installed capacity Wind turbine model and online time, we also make statistics of proposed offshore wind farms in the world. Finally, we make feasibility analysis of new offshore wind farm project, including technical and economic feasibility analysis. Objective parameters are adopted in the analysis which can be referred by offshore wind farm project investors. China is rich in offshore wind resources, by far, Development and Reform Commission of China has taken Donghai Bridge offshore wind power project as a pilot operation and get some successful experience. Though there are many technical difficulty to develop offshore wind energy, we still believe China will make a great progress in offshore wind energy projects in the future as the onshore wind energy. We estimate China Offshore Energy Development Planning programme will be launched before the end of the year, which will greatly support the development of China offshore wind energy in the policy. In a word, it was a depth research report on Global and China Offshore Wind Farm operation.

Why I want to help the environment and help myself to some free windmill energy!

It has always been a dream of mine to live completely off the grid. How nice would it be to not only help the environment, but to also be able to generate my own energy and be entirely self sufficient? Pretty damn nice.

Whenever I share my vision with someone, I usually get a lot of questions such as ,”What happens when then wind stops blowing? Does your power go out?” You might laugh, but I’ve actually had someone ask me that question.

Here’s some info about wind power from the American Wind Energy Association:

Small wind turbines are electric generators that utilize wind energy to produce clean, emissions-free power for individual homes, farms, and small businesses. With this simple and increasingly popular technology, individuals can generate their own power and cut their energy bills while helping to protect the environment. The U.S. leads the world in the production of small wind turbines, which are defined as having rated capacities of 100 kilowatts and less, and the market is expected to continue strong growth through the next decade.

Some people don’t realize that you can actually create your own solar and wind energy. It’s not only possible, but I plan to do it when I build my new home.

Will only renewable energy and no fossil fuels be enough to run the things that we sign ‘essential’ for life? yes if we develop technology to use all sorts of renewable energy. How do they integer the cost of solar drive electrolysis? I’ve been reading through this articlehttp://www.nap.edu/openbook.php?record_id=10922&page=103They cite the current cost of solar in the field of $3-$6 per peak-watt. And they give other figures for the conversion of Solar to Hydrogen. What I don’t understand is that the sun shines adjectives…solar power? anyone know aproximately how much it would cost to get enough solar power installed on a 1200 sq ft home? about $20,000 to power the entire house for 30 years.Look into toll credits etc. and it might become cost effective.Wait…Solar Energy? How much human energy is need to produced solar energy? How much engery will solar power produced? How much do we put aside from changing to solar power? What are some benefit in changing to solar power? How to install the panel? Can solar…Is solar power affecting the worldwide climate? So, all these massive mirrors that point to a central cooling tower – surely these mirrors are stopping the suns energy to enter the dirt and to radiate back to the atmosphere? Is solar power going to cause the earth to freeze…any concept re building sustainable swimming hole rural property solar power, filter sea beside reeds etc? Not knowing how big the property is, the only suggestion is the solar and wind power is a great addition to any rural property. The thermosipon solar hot marine system would be ideal. No pumps, or electricity required. A…Is here any INexpensive road to convert your home to solar or twirl power? If the govt wants us to convert, why aren’t they demanding that it be CHEAP? moderately… no less expensive install it yourself. That’s what I’m doing now near 3 wind turbines on top of my garage, and hopefully in a…What’s the pros and cons of solar vim versus weave vim? I’m planning on building a business. What would be the advantage of using solar cells or windmills to produce the power, or at least to hold the cost of electrical power down? The facility will be in the midwest…Where can I find a allow to assist beside the instillation of solar or windmill vigour? I want to open a facility , but I want to use solar or will mind energy. Are there any grant available to assist or offset the cost? If so, who and where can I look? Check the…Solar vim and thermodynamics? A 5.0-m-diameter garden pond is 0.400 m deep. Solar energy is incident on the pond at an average rate of 400W/m^2 . If the water absorb all the solar energy and does not exchange energy near its surroundings, how many hours…How can apartment renters economically harness the power of solar animation? If you have south facing windows, assuming you live in the northern hemisphere, donate passive solar to a room by putting down plastic over the carpet and put down a cheap dark colored tile to conduct yourself as a passive…how vital is renewable heartiness for business? Potentially if you can generate your own renewable energy, very. In times past solar panel and wind turbines cost loads compared to what they can produce. Now these devices are cheaper and more efficient, and you can save their cost…Do You Agree That India Should Invest More Funds In Solar Power? Eventually oil will be depleted and states will have no other choice but to diversify their energy sources anyway. Because India is such a reheat country, it can potentially have an advantage over other states in so far as solar…why? solar perkiness can be used surrounded by singapore??/? please tell me any other things except because there is a lot of sunlight… I’m not sure I construe your question. If you’re asking about the feasibility of utilising solar animation in S’pore, (besides the point that you mentioned that…Renewable force policy? Another answer got my attention;given the amount of land, water,(and labor) required for agri-based renewable activeness,is it really a viable option?Asked this in the Politics section because the countrys vivacity policy will play heavily in the upcoming election cycle. To all,Ethanol production uses…Can you believe it facilitate crooked border crossings solar-powered immigrant shelter next to internet access. Here’s a nifty little invention for facilitating illegal border crossings: the solar-powered immigrant shelter with internet access.Robert Ransick have completed a 6 month Residency at Eyebeam developing Casa Segura (Safe House). The artwork combines a sheltered room on private land in…Why Solar heartiness Not utilized or Why at hand is no emergency contained by using solar punch? Please give me the informations how solar energy can be effectively used in our day after day life We can make roof-mounted solar units to warmness water.Solar electric panels are still expensive, but getting cheaper.Do some re-searching on the internet….How does a turn turbine work? what are some advantages of twirl life?( stipulation 10 advantages)? Um…. Also i don’t need disadvantages and history so please don’t just paste something from a site create I really need this for robotics so don’t want to spend too much time on reading. Thanks! All you ever wanted…Solar Power? Solar Power?World Solar Production Total peak power of installed solar panels is around 5,300 MW as of the end of 2005. (IEA statistics appear to be underreported: they report 2,600 MW as of 2004, which next to 1,700 installed in 2005…what can i use aside solar dash to trademark a rechargeable iron? I and a friend are trying out options for a rechargeable iron we need other options aside from solar vim that would work well and affordable. there are radios that use crank handles….but thats the best i can come up…Any input on how rationalized today’s solar power roof panel are? 20% is what I’ve read.? In that the conversion ratio from sun to actual electricity is only 20%. Star Solar has just come out near a photonic crystal that can increase the efficiency of solar cells by up to 37 percent, Solar energy…jump to yahoo.com and type within solar vivacity. What do you consideration in the region of the 3 hits surrounded by the blue box? How do they? (sorry got cut off there)differ from the next group of hits that are numbered? Why do they appear contained by this order?PLEASE HELP ME MY GRADE IS DEPENDING ON YOU! PLEASE THIS IS MY HOMEWORK! the ones in the blue…should the United States build a solar power satellite up within space? For both space and EarthBut who built that wertyuSo it can send electrical power back to Earth! It is so much cheaper to just build the the panel on the ground. They could build several for the price of getting…Poll: If you be solar powered, would you move more like greased lightning than you do presently? I have been solar powered for three years now. At first the added weight I had to carry aroud within the form of huge solar panels was a bit of an issue, but you get used to it after a few…Does anyone know any bearing to go and get solar activeness within a do it yourself format? I would like to get started and gradually add on to my system until I am off the grid! It’s tricky, because you actually want to be on the grid. The reason is that one of the ways solar works economically…MicroCap Solar Company located within CA that have perfect solar Petawatt life? If your concern relates to investing, there will be a lot of solar companies claiming breakthroughs and looking for investment money. Without a great deal of expertise surrounded by this area to separate out the good ones from the bad…What is the potential for Alternative Energy within Malaysia? (biomass/fuel, solar, nuclear, weave, water)? Malaysia is currently dependent to petroleum as the main source for electrical generation and fuel, but the oil reserve will single last for 50 years, or so. Why there are low exploitation by the industry and government for alternative dynamism to…Since we enjoy so much space where on earth the sun shines for 365 days, why can’t we enjoy trunk solar power plants? Eventually, we probably will unless we come up with a different more cost effective way to create power first. The problem is solar cell are still expensive. Presumably as more people buy into the technology, economies of scale will see in….how do hydrogen fuel cell compare to solar or coil activeness as an alternative joie de vivre source? Solar and wind energy are alternative sources of energy, whereas hydrogen fuel cell are not exactly a source of energy at all, unless you have pure hydrogen.

With the world’s ever increasing demand of power being more than it’s supply, it is about time that concrete steps to save power. Apart from being conscious about the usage of power and water at home, one can employ pollution free and cost effective power solutions at our homes. Solar power solutions and wind energy electricity power solutions are the two of the most efficient solutions that can replace the conventional power solutions employed at our homes.

These solutions can help you combat power outages, reduce your electricity bills, and also help the environment.

This article will explore the cost effective wind energy electricity solution that you can employ at home.

Wind energy electricity solutions work best when the following conditions are met:

You have a house or farmhouse spread over a big area. Typically, wind power solutions are employed in areas that spread over an acre.

The average wind speed in your area is around 11 miles per hour. If you stay in a place that has little wind flow, your system will not work. Consult an expert before installing the wind power solution at home.

You need to draw water from exteral sources. You can install a wind power system even when you do not need to draw water from outside. However, if you need to draw water from outside on a regular basis, a wind power system and windmill generators offer the best solution.

Your house needs a lot of uninterrupted power supply. Combating those power outages is easy with the pollution free wind power systems. You need no longer worry about a break in your work because of a power uncertainty.

A typical wind power system comprises of a tower and five blades to churn out wind energy. The length of the wind tower varies depending on the location of your house. You may need a longer tower if you are in low wind zone; you can work with a shorter tower if you live by the beach. Using a wind generator, this wind energy can be converted into useful electrical energy to be employed at home for running various electrical appliances. You can even store the power generated for later use, making wind generators more efficient than convention power systems.

If you are confused with the wind power jargon, here’s a piece of information for you. The terms, wind mills, wind turbines, and wind generators are used to refer to the same machine.

One of the main task in researching how to make wind energy is by looking on reliable sources of information. This is much easier today as there are lots of good sites and books on this subject available than before.

You can build your own wind energy source if you have the right guide on how to make one, the funds to do it and the space where to place it.

With the spiraling cost of energy bill, looking for alternative options to save money and make your own energy power is not sound a crazy task anymore. Also, the classical energy sources like fossil fuels are not enough anymore to cover the higher demand for energy once the population grow. Having made your own supply of energy will outcast the expensive of building one and prepare you for the future challenges.

The windmill renewable energy can be done if you have a windy site. This one is the main disadvantage of this type of energy. But if you do have one with enough wind to produce you enough energy, than it is a pity not to use it. If you do not have one, using solar energy or other types of alternative energy may be an option for you.

The best sites suitable for wind power are from open spaces, especially from coastal areas. If you have a small garden or lots of trees around your house, is not enough wind to produce energy, making your house unsuitable for wind energy.

To make wind energy you will need a windmill, off course. This is made from a tower and usually five blades. The most costly are the windmills, but nowadays if you have the right DIY guide you can build one yourself. A word of cautions too, you have to take the right safety precautions when installing one. Then you need a wind generator to convert the wind into energy.

DIY wind turbines are used to utilize the energy of the wind and a lot of work has been done to make them more affordable. However, buying a wind energy system still requires a large investment, but there is a way in which you can cut costs significantly. This technique to cut costs involves making your own wind energy turbine. Wind turbines are available in large and small sizes.

Building your own turbine means that you will be able to control costs to a certain extent. Windmills energy systems have different components like a generator, rotating shaft, gearbox, mounting tower, etc. An understanding of how to put together the whole system is necessary for building your own turbine wind generator but this type of information is freely available online now.DIY wind turbine manuals can help you with the entire process. These manuals contain instructions and diagrams that explain things in a step by step manner so that you do everything correctly. Many do it yourself guides and manuals are available online and the basic components can be purchased at most hardware stores.Building your own turbine is a very practical way of providing electrical energy for your house. Small wind energy turbines can be used to power household appliances and lighting. You have the choice to either choose a horizontal-axis wind turbine or a vertical-axis. In horizontal-axis turbines the blades are facing the wind direction, while in vertical they can be in different directions. Horizontal-axis wind turbines are the most commonly used. The vertical-axis turbines are more suitable in places where wind direction can vary frequently. You can setup your own wind energy system for as low as $200. A DIY wind turbine is economical and clean and will payback the initial investment in about 3 years.Clearly there is a huge benefit to the environment also and you can play your part in reducing environmental pollution.

There are Advantages and Disadvantages for Building Your Own Wind Energy System. Discover What They Are!
Like any other form of energy, wind energy has immediate and obvious advantages but also some drawbacks. Therefore any decision to install wind energy generators must take into account these different factors.

Wind machines and wind turbines can effectively generate energy as electricity for free as long as the wind is available. Because wind is free and renewable, wind turbines generate clean and renewable energy, which already gives it an immense advantage compared to be contaminating fossil fuel plants that have already done so much damage to the earth’s ecology. In addition modern technology means that wind turbines can automatically adjust their blades to maximize the use of wind even if the direction changes.
In different parts of the U.S., large wind energy installations are being created. In Texas for example the Horse Hollow wind energy center is already powering more than 220,000 homes in the neighborhood. This is done through the 421 wind turbines that are in the park. In addition to this, testing of wind turbines and wind machines can be done in places such as the wind park just off the coast of Cape Cod in Massachusetts. It is the first of its kind and likely to be a forerunner of many others.
The immense advantage of wind power that many people see is its cheapness once the initial installation has been made and the fact that using it does not depend on any imported fuel. This is a big advantage compared to fossil fuels such as oil, which the U.S. imports heavily from other countries and therefore must pay for with a considerable part of the national budget.
Wind energy therefore is independent of any particular producer and available to anyone in the country who wishes to use it. Because it is not generated by any particular mechanism specific to any particular country, but rather by the overall effect of the sun’s rays falling on our planet and the way that the earth continually turns on its axis, wind energy is therefore a truly democratic means of generating electricity.
The cost of electricity for wind turbines can be as little as 4 to 6 cents per kilowatt-hour. In making this calculation it is necessary to take into account the financing for the initial installation of the project and also the site selection in terms of the amount of wind available and therefore the amount of electricity that can be generated. However together with other renewable energy of such as solar energy wind energy is one of the cheapest forms of renewable energy anywhere on earth.
In farms and ranches where wind is abundantly available, wind turbine towers can be installed to satisfy a continual demand for low cost electricity. Individual power suppliers also come to business arrangements with farmers renting a few square yards of land to be able to erect towers and generate electricity.
It is perhaps the initial cost of wind turbines, which is the main factor in any financial calculation. Although the initial cost has been reduced over the years, it is still a major factor in terms of installing wind turbines compared with conventional generators. For this reason fossil fuel may still attract investment for some cases.
Wind power is also clearly dependent on the availability of the wind itself. Sites need to be chosen where there is as continual a supply of wind as possible. It should also be remembered that natural phenomena such as tsunamis can have dramatic effects on the weather patterns of any area and therefore of the wind supply and velocity.
Because wind parks need a lot of wind and because towns and cities are often constructed in more sheltered areas there is also the problem of making such renewable energy available to city dwellers. Often the installation of electric cables to carry the electricity from the source to the destination is not a profitable activity.
Environmentally, wind turbines to need to make progress in terms of both their appearance, which can be a blot on the landscape and also the noise that they make. Environmentalists are concerned that the harm of the wind turbines may be a distinct disturbing factor on the surrounding ecology.

Wind Turbine Offers Another Clean AlternativeThe first usage of wind power dates back more than three thousand years. Windmills, which we all know from literature, were used primarily in the west between 1300 and the late 1800′s. None of this means anything to the modern homeowner, considering a wind turbine as a possible alternative energy source, however. Windmill energy power is becoming more and more popular.

What you do need to know is that wind power is not as expensive to impalement as you might think. This may sound funny, but you must determine first, if it is windy enough where you live, to justify a wind turbine. Many use wind power as a back up to solar, while still others use them both in conjunction, as an alternative energy package.Just how much energy can a wind turbine produce? Again, we must determine how windy it is where you are planning to install it. This is not a question about whether it is ever windy where you live, it is probably windy during storms, but that is merely an observation about the weather. What you want to know about is the long-term average wind speed for your area, or historic climate data, not day-to-day weather. Obviously it will produce a greater amount of energy the more the small turbine spins. So what exactly is a small wind turbine. They are designed for individual homes, farms, and small businesses, and are electric generators that utilize wind energy to produce clean, emissions-free renewable power. They are defined as having rated capacities of up to 100 kilowatts. So if you were thinking that one wind generator will power your house, I’m sorry but it won’t. Keep in mind that the wind turbine is simply a collector just like a solar panel is. In this case the collector is the spinning rotor, made up of a number of blades that rotate to turn the electrical generator. Small blades result in a small rotor diameter, which translates into a small collector area, which further translates into small amounts of generated electricity. Positioning is Very ImportantIt Must Be High Enough to Catch the WindTo properly access the wind flow and generate enough electricity, wind turbines are installed on high towers that rise above any trees or surrounding buildings. Your roof top might not be the right place unless a tower is utilized. It is advisable to get your neighbors permission before installing such a structure. For whatever reason you chose not to have a high enough tower, it won’t matter when it comes to generating adequate energy. It is better not to install a wind turbine in the first place, rather than to not have it high enough. There is simply little energy in low winds that you can convert into usable electricity. Is it better to have many wind turbines or one larger one? To answer this question, you first have to determine what it is exactly that you plan to power. Are we talking about an all electric home, or perhaps one that uses other energy sources such as natural gas? Considering that most homes do have more than one energy source, the average household consumes about 1,000 kWh of electricity per month, or about 12,000 kWh per year. Depending on your wind resource and the tower height required to get the wind turbine above the trees, a wind system designed to generate that kind of electric capacity would have to have a very large rotor. The price tag could easily exceed $50,000.00 to install. Another option could be to have multiple smaller turbines. This of course would depend on the space you have available to erect the amount of towers needed. Smaller is BetterLimiting the Size Can Be Very Cost EffectiveEven if you decided to go with several smaller wind turbines, the cost could still run you about $12-$15,000. Yes it is a far cry from $50,000, but it is still a pretty penny. Depending of course what your electric bill is currently, you must determine how long it will take to pay for it. There is of course another option that, depending on your situation, can save you thousands of dollars. I am referring to making this a do-it-yourself project. There are kits available that will cut your cost in half. Even better than that there are online instructional guides that will walk you through the entire process step by step. Small wind turbine system can be constructed for literally pennies on the dollar in this manner. For those of you who don’t have either the time or the inclination to do it all yourself, I might suggest that you take advantage of the current work shortage by hiring a couple of competent handymen to construct the entire project. I bet with the right instructions, you could bring it in for a tenth of the original estimate. My own extensive research has helped me narrow down the best of the best instructional guides, complete with blueprints, photos, for that do-it-yourself wind and/or solar power project you might be considering. Obviously, I can’t go into great detail in this article, but if I have piqued your interest, you can get all the facts of this or many other ideas on how to go green at my site Possibly GREEN. There you’ll find the right ways to live a greener life, including information on how to convert your car inexpensively, and even find green jobs in your area.

During that time I learned a little about a lot of things, and would like to pass along some of that knowledge. I live in California with my beautiful wife and a menagerie of pets.
