Residential Windmills

Even if you’re not striving to be green, most people have at least a passing curiosity about windmill energy.  This curiosity, along with a desire to save money on electric bills while helping the environment, has led to a rise of people seeking out information on residential windmills.

One company, Southwest Windpower, is meeting the needs of those who want to use residential windmills to provide energy for their homes.  Their Skystream 3.7 model promises to provide up to 90% of the wind energy that you need to power your entire home. It even has a control panel that you can access right from your home computer.

The cost of a system like this one is around $8,500, including installation and if your family doesn’t use much energy, you can even sell the excess back to the electric company.  Though this model is efficient, the company recommends that it is best used if you are housed on acre of land that averages 10MPH wind speeds.

Since not everyone has an extra $8,000 lying around, some folks are looking into building their own residential windmills.  There are several ways to go about this, but the first thing you need to do is check with your neighborhood zoning laws to find out if a windmill is going to cause any trouble with the neighbors.  Once you’re in the clear, you can begin searching for information about building your own small wind generator.

There are a lot of videos online that will show you the basics of building your own windmill, but the best method of learning by far is an ebook that is available online.  It’s called Home Made Energy and it gives step by step instructions, along with diagrams that show how to create your own wind power for under $200.00.  Click here to check it out.
